Partner Search Request: PROTECT - renewable energy sustainable production, Italy
Pisa University, Italy, is looking for partners for an IEE project - PROTECT.
Objectives of the Project
The strategic objective of this project is to provide both institutional and non-institutional decision
makers with a sound set of procedures and knowledge tools in order to take decisions and programme
actions policies concerning Renewable Energy (RE) exploitation that can fulfil the following aims:
- be sustainable both from a social, economic and environmental points of view - to renovate the
connected regulations and/or produce new, clearer, more coordinated and efficient ones
- to harmonize the regulations and analysis procedures at local, national and European scale
- to overcome the barriers due to the strong environmental concerns of environmentalist associations
and of citizens in the different countries
- to spread and disseminate among citizens, firms and local institutions the awareness of advantages
and disavantages of RE use, by means of explanations of transparent and understandable choice criteria
and of their scientific bases.
The specific objectives are:
- to build and implement a spatial expert planning support system (SEPSS) where sectorial
modelling and evaluations be integrated with advanced spatial analysis techniques in order to assess
the possibilities of production and sustainable use of Biomass RE on the base of natural
vocations/potentiality of territorial systems without exceeding their carrying capacity.
- to develop, in each project partner country, a complete pilot path, for the Biomass RE, which
includes:
- the identification of shortcomings and barriers in the present regulations and the proposition of
their modifications, as well as best practice, taking into account also the territorial continuity of European territory,
- the implementation of the SEPSS for selected territorial areas
Actions:
- Analysis and evaluation of past and present regulations and experiences for each partner country
- Compatible Data Base building for each selected area
- Compatible Geographic Information Systems (GIS) building for each selected area
- Building the SEPSS
- SEPSS implementation. Evaluation of the located biomass energy producibility for each selected
area
- SEPSS implementation. Sustainability. Multiple criteria evaluation of possible impacts of the identified
production locations (in act. 5)
- SEPSS. Integrated assessment. Comprehensive and integrated biomass production suitability index
to define energy policies and support planning processes.
