Report: PREDAC - European Actions for Renewable Energies

PREDAC is a project which aims at promoting local development of renewable energies and energy efficiency in Europe. This is achieved by the action of 11 thematic working groups.

Objective

The involvement of local protagonists is highly important for future development in this field, and their role in the field of sustainable development is vital. The work programme is designed to enhance local stakeholders' actions.

PREDAC gathers actions to:

promote Energy Efficiency to a diverse public,
provide sector-employees with relevant information about new solutions and best European practice

Methodology

The project wishes to make use of European know-how as a basis to remove some of the barriers in the development of renewable energy and rational use of energy. This project relies on the dissemination of experience gained by those European countries that have progressed furthest in these fields.

The objectives shall be realised through several communication tools, such as :

methodological guides for people involved in the specific fields,
a website hosting an European job bursary and an on-line forum,
states of the Art in each partner country,
booklets and technological guides,
workshops and European conferences.

11 Working Groups, 23 organisations from 10 countries.

The project is subdivided in 11 work packages (WP).

The first three actions are cross-subjects:

WP 1: Local investment into Renewable Energy;
WP 2: Development of emerging jobs;
WP 3: Functioning of local energy information centres.

The next five actions are directed to specific fields:

WP 4: the implementation of a BioClimatic building label;
WP 5: the promotion of thermal solar technologies;
WP 6: the promotion of photovoltaïc technologies to SMEs;
WP 7: the evaluation of the environmental impact of Small HydroPower and
WP 8: the improvement of the social acceptance of Wind Power.

The three last actions are directed to communication:

WP 9: development of electronic information service on renewable energies,
WP 10: enhancing communication between Europeans actors through specialised newspapers
WP 11: development of existing documentation centre.

The PREDAC consortium is made up by 23 organisations from 10 European countries (Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, The Netherlands, Spain, United Kingdom)

The project is supported by the European Commission Energie Programme and ADEME (France).
