Case Study: Studies of rationalization of electrical energy consumptions in several municipal buildings - Contracts revision of electrical energy consumption, Portugal

Case Study (41 KB PDF)

Summary

One of the basic purposes of any company is without any doubt the minimization of its fixed costs. The optimisation of the electrical consumption will originate therefore smaller cost and in consequence an increase of its competitiveness.

Taking into consideration the changes registered in the tariff of the Public Vendor of electrical energy, it is necessary to adapt, with the objective of reducing the operational costs, contributing this way to the improvement and quality of the use of electrical energy.

The objective of this work is to analyse in a detailed way the consumption of electrical energy of the municipal buildings of Sabugal, Penamacor and Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, through the consumptions in Low Tension (BTE) and of Medium Tension (MT), In order to present solutions for the rationalization of energy through corrections/changes of contracts with the public vendor of electrical energy, and that will be proposed for the most efficient administration of this type of energy.

This study has another advantage, because it is possible to do an evaluation of the deviations of energy consumption, as well as of the peak points (hours of larger consumption), this will allow to control the consumption of, and optimise more easily the costs of energy on the total expenses of the company, without forgetting the importance of the relationship between the consumption of minimum energy/needs of comfort.

Results

Giving the good acceptance of this study, ENERAREA intends to give continuity to this project, extending it to more municipal cities of Beira Interior - Potugal, as well as to Companies and Industries of the area. The result of the study concerning the municipal buildings of the three municipalities, allowed to present the following conclusions:

In municipal buildings of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo (Beira Interior - Portugal)

With this study we can conclude that without alteration of the tariff, the consumption in the municipal buildings of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo in 2003, points approximately for a forecast of costs in the value of 66.170€.

With the alterations proposed by ENERAREA, the consumers of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo will be charged by a total of 61.863€ which will originate an annual real saving, in 2003 of 4.306€ only for the substitution of the Contracts, and without any Investment that is to say the total saving foreseen for 2003 corresponds at 6,5% of total costs in electrical energy in the same period, but without alteration of contracts.

In municipal buildings of Penamacor (Beira Interior - Portugal)

The similar study of Penamacor for the same year (2003), it points approximately for a forecast of costs of 74.964 €.

With the alterations proposals for ENERAREA, the municipality of Penamacor will be charged 68.916€ which will originate an annual real savingof 6.048€ only for the substitution of the Contracts, and without any Investment. That is to say the total amount of Savings estimated for the year 2003 equals 8,0% of the total billing in electrical energy in the same period, but without alteration of contracts.

In municipal buildings of Sabugal (Beira Interior - Portugal)

Relatively to the municipal buildings of Sabugal for the same year of 2003 the study foresees that without alteration of contracts, they would be charged in 62.594€. With the alterations proposals for ENERAREA, the consumers of Sabugal will be charged 57.565€, which will originate an annual real saving, in 2003 of 5.028€ only for the substitution of the Contracts, and without any Investment, that is to say the Total Saving foreseen for 2003 corresponds at 8,0% of the total billing in electrical energy.
