Report: Energy S.Q.U.A.R.E. - Initiative promoting dissemination of information and awareness about energy topics

Purpose of the Initiative

This initiative is aimed at disseminating information and raising public awareness about energy and environment topics.

The name "Energy SQUARE" recalls the physical and symbolic main square of Teramo, the principal town in the Province, as being the place hosting all the activities of the initiative.

Both in English and Italian, the acronym S.Q.U.A.R.E. stands for six very important adjectives in matter of clean and renewable energy.

In English: Sustainable, Quality, Useful, Alternative, Renewable, Ecological.

In Italian : Sostenibile, Qualità, Utile, Alternativa, Rinnovabile, Ecologica.

The activities which are aimed at raising the public awareness will be mainly focusing on:

• Conferences
• Exhibition and visiting of the "Eco-logical House"
• Multimedia area
• Dissemination of information documents and questionnaires

Conferences

Conferences will be focusing on four principal issues:

• Towards the Provincial Energy Plan This subject is of great interest and might be developed and compared to energy plans approved by other Administrative Provincial Boards.
• Gas hydrates Two Italian researchers will be presenting their studies related to a new energy source found on the sea bottom.
• Building with high energy output This initiative will be held in association with the Engineers and the Architects Boards of the Province of Teramo. During this meeting, works already made in both public and private sectors will be presented.
• Communication Strategies of the Energy Agencies In this context, some European Agencies will be comparing their very important communication strategies.

The Eco-logical House

The Eco-logical House is an exhibition of renewable energies, water and energy saving, bio-building, domestic consumption awareness and environment. It has been realised by the German centre for energy and the environment "Energie und Umweltzentrum", located in Springe - Hannover.

It is currently the most important and complete European touring exhibition focusing on Energy topics.

This house as yet, has been visited by over 300 000 people in 200 towns in five European countries.

Visitors are mainly students, of all ages: they visit each step of the exhibition and have specific lessons, held by experienced staff.

For the initiative Energy S.Q.U.A.R.E., the House will be open for 12 hours a day, to all the citizenship and students. It will be possible to visit the House individually or with a guide.

Multimedia Area

A multimedia area will be set up offering audio and video broadcasts and other contents in order to have people meeting in different ways, topics related to energy and the environment.

Information Documents and Questionnaires

The Agency for Energy and the Environment is preparing a questionnaire to determine the public degree of awareness about the intelligent use of energy.

During this four-day initiative, information documents and educational exhibitions will be available to the public.
