The first one, held in Freiburg (Germany), was in English. The second one, held in Lyon (France) was in French. The conferences targeted architects, planners, building engineers, clients and contractors, investors, solar experts.
The European conferences contributed to consider PV modules not only for energetic purposes but also as a beautiful, protective and functional part of buildings fostering the acceptance and demand of photovoltaics and influencing modern sustainable architecture.
Freiburg Seminar
The integration of photovoltaic systems into modern sustainable architecture and their acceptance and use as standard construction element for buildings constitutes an ultimate challenge for PV technology. Building integrated photovoltaics offer a wide range of application possibilities that reach far beyond pure electricity generation. PV modules can be used as shading materials improving the interior climate in buildings while at the same time converting sunlight into energy and their appealing optical properties open up new fields of design possibilities. Giving a new impetus to architects, planners, building engineers and solar experts this seminar presented a variety of innovations and outstanding application examples related to building integrated photovoltaics tackling technology developments and trends, design issues, practical experiences as well as economic and market issues throughout Europe. In that way the seminar contributed to consider PV modules not only for energetic purposes but also as a beautiful, protective and functional part of buildings fostering the acceptance and demand of photovoltaics and influencing modern sustainable architecture.
Le photovoltaic et la conception architecturale des bâtiments - présentations
This second conference of the thematic work package "building integrated photovoltaics" was held exclusively in French.
Primarily aimed at architects and technical services of local municipalities, this conference was opened by Jean-Loup FLEURET, Vice President of the Regional Government (Région Rhône Alpes). Following this opening speech, Didier LENOIR, President of the CLER, discussed the current energy context, followed by Fabrice JUQUOIS of the ADEME Renewable Energies Department who presented the French photovoltaic market. Alain GUIAVARCH, from the Ecole des Mines, Paris presented their new software for simulating the thermal impact of photovoltaics on buildings.
The first Round Table gave architects the opportunity to discuss their past and future projects, whilst a series of images illustrating their projects were projected. Alain BANSAC, Vice-President of the National Architects Union (UNSFA) summarised the round table.
The afternoon session of this conference was opened by PREDAC partner Klaus GREIPMEIER (ZREU) with a stimulating overview of the German BIPV market. Alain RICAUD from Cythelia then presented their software for sizing photovoltaics for building integration.
The second Round Table gave the microphone to system owners - from private individuals to local councils and special use buildings, demonstrating the varied motivations and needs of final-end Clients. Marc JEDLICZKA (CLER Vice-president and Hespul General Director) and Philippe BEUTIN (ADEME RES Department Head) summarised the second round tables, before José MANSOT, the Régional ADEME Delegate, closed the day.
