Synopsis
The Flemish regional government chooses an integrated, multi-modal approach based on partnership to organise its mobility policy. Different partners sign up to a "mobiliteitsconvenant", a contract that sets out the different sustainable transport measures and projects, defines the financial planning and structures the cooperation. The partners develop together a local mobility plan. This plan takes future land use developments in account. The mobility plan formulates key actions to increase the quality of the different transport networks in a local community. The mobility plan is based on a few very clear sustainable objectives: the increase of road safety and livability, a modal shift towards public transport, cycling and walking. Almost all Flemish local authorities have signed up to the "mobiliteitsconvenant" programme. Most of them have developed a local mobility plan.
