Case Study: Parking policy - Aalborg, Denmark

View the Case Study

Synopsis

Since Aalborg introduced payable parking at some parking lots in the city centre in 1989, there have always been some free public parking spaces. But not anymore! Indeed, since January 2003, it is not possible to park your car on public parking spaces located in the city centre for free, or at least the parking spaces are time restricted. At the same time, the municipality expanded the area for payable parking and time restrictions to the surrounding neighbourhoods of the city centre, and increased the parking fee. The residents can buy a parking license which has a validity of one year. All these measures contribute to make the city a pleasant place to travel and live. The parking policy is explained in a document that can be downloaded from the Internet so that the motorists have the possibility to be well informed about the parking regulations. The document contains guidelines on some of the parking regulations that most often confuse motorists.

Target groups: all citizens
