View the Case Study

Synopsis

As permanent measure, formal membership of the 2001 "In town without my car!" Campaign was marked with the opening of a children's traffic park (Parque Infantil de Tráfico). This playground is subject to specific regulations approved by the Directorate-General for Traffic, and complies with all the legislation in force regarding facilities of this kind. The traffic park consists of a classroom and a marked circuit covering an area of 6,000 m2. The programme takes place over two full days and is initiated with a request from a teaching centre. Personalised teaching and attention is given to the pupils so as to achieve more direct learning. Over the two days, the pupils first study the theoretical content of the course and then carry out road safety, environment and sustainable mobility education activities using audiovisual media in the classroom. They then put the theory learned into practice on the marked circuit using bicycles on the first day and go-karts on the second day.
