Synopsis
Borlänge is located in the Dalarna region of Sweden. Both the Swedish National Railway and Road Administration are situated in the same area of Borlänge, as are the university and several important technical and research companies. They co-operate in several fields, that of transport in particular. The area is undergoing an expansion phase and has become a research district for new technical solutions. It also has its own environmental programme, whose framework gives priority to a sustainable transportation system. Within the area, the municipality has built a street which gives priority to pedestrians, cyclists and buses over cars. The street, and its surrounding square, is the nucleus of the area and is therefore a meeting place for the people who work there. Within the area there is also a large water park where rainwater is purified in special ponds. The environmental programme, the "pedestrian street" and the water park are all measures that are expected to result in a decrease in emisssions of atmospheric pollutants and an increase in accessibility and safety for the people who work and move around the area.
Target groups: all citizens
