Synopsis
Veloroutes are special signposted main connections within the 190 km long bicycle network in Kiel. The veloroute system consists of a total of eleven routes, comprising a total length of 80 km. They stand out by their particular efficiency, safety and comfort, especially at intersections and junctions. Veloroutes go along "cycle streets", 30 km/h zones or along bicycle lanes or paths.
The city of Kiel has introduced special signposts for its veloroutes: they are designated with white signs and red letters for everyday routes or green letters for leisure routes respectively. Signage in form of tables is used at important junctions. The signposting does not only support orientation aloof of the main routes, but is also an important factor for image and awareness raising on cycling.
