Case Study: European Mobility Week Campaign 2002 - Krakow, Poland

View the Case Study

Synopsis

Krakow was the only city in Poland participating in the entire European Mobility Week (EMW) campaign 2002. The success of the initiative was possible thanks to the partnership approach and the citizen involvement.

The idea to organise the EMW in Krakow was the result of a joint undertaking initiated by the City of Krakow Government, Polish Environmental Partnership Foundation and the Association for the Development of Nowa Huta, in co-operation with 28 partners from the public, business and NGOs sectors. 42 institutions and organisations were invited to take part in the event preparations. Some of them declined the offer due to the specificities of the earlier approved event budget, but declared their willingness to take part in the event next year.

The campaign was preceeded by a press conference at the City of Krakow Government Office on September 12, 2002, which brought together most of the event organisers. Thanks to this conference, newspapers, radio and television media were present during the entire EMW. Announcements and reportages were cast on Krakow Television, "Alfa" Radio, Radio Krakow, Radio "Plus", "Dziennik Polski" (newspaper), "Gazeta Wyborcza" (newspaper), "Voice - Nowa Huta Weekly".

Different thematics were associated to each day of the EMW:

Target groups: all citizens
Fields: mobility advice & campaigns
