BUSTRIP - Baltic Urban Sustainable Transport Implementation and Planning

Website: www.bustrip-project.net/index.htm

BUSTRIP aimed to develop - in extensive city/peer co-operation - SUTPs in 11 cities and one regional authority in Baltic Sea Region that are on a different stage on their transport planning. BUSTRIP produced SUTP toolbox of techniques, collecting all the learning experiences and best practice from the partner cities.

BUSTRIP was coordinated by UBC Environment and Agenda 21 Secretariat. Two other core partners were the UBC Commission on Transportation and Chalmers University of Technology in Göteborg. The 11 partner cities and one regional authority were Bremen (DE), Gdynia (PL), Göteborg (SE), Kaunas (LT), Kouvola Region (FI), Liepaja (LV), Pärnu (EE), Sundsvall (SE), Tartu (EE), Turku (FI), Vilnius (LT) and Örebro (SE).

The BUSTRIP was part-financed by the European Union (European Regional Development Fund) within the BSR INTERREG III B Neighbourhood Programme and by the Finnish Ministry of Environment.

Although the project ended on 31 December 2007 you can still find valuable information on the project website, including the SUTP summaries from the partner cities, pilot action evaluation reports and the Peer Review findings.

The main outcomes of the two and a half year project are:

  • 12 Sustainable Urban Transport Plans,
  • 12 implemented pilot actions,
  • 12 cities with greater capacity to meet the challenges in urban transport,
  • 1 Peer Review method guidance CD and
  • 1 guidebook called "Moving Sustainably - a guide to Sustainable Urban Transport Plans" available also at www.movingsustainably.net in eight BSR langauges.
