Summary

The main aspects of the project were to implement the renovation of the nursery school's "Shaltinelis" building in Ignalina City, Republic of Lithuania according to National Energy Strategy of Lithuanian Republic. According to results of energy audit analysis partial nursery school building renovation was accomplished. The project was carried out in order to increase the energy efficiency in the nursery school "Shaltinelis" by the means of renovation. The main reason of the renovation was overheat energy losses through the walls, the windows, doors, roof and 1st stage ceiling of the nursery school building.

During the renovation was planned:

  • To change the windows, to change the outside doors, to install heat reflecting barriers, to install radiator temperature regulators
  • The primary goal of the project was increasing energy efficiency and reducing of the energy charges and energy consumption
  • The project of nursery school "Shaltinelis" renovation financed from Ignalina region municipality budget.

Results

  • Thermal resistance of the windows before renovation was 0.39 m² K/W, after renovation 0.9 m² K/W
  • Heat loses factor of the windows before renovation 2.56 W/ m² K, after renovation 1.1 W/ m² K
  • Thermal resistance of the outside doors before renovation was 0.4 m² K/W, after renovation 0.9 m² K/W
  • Heat looses factor of the outside doors before renovation 2.5 W/ m² K, after renovation 1.1 W/ m² K

After renovation energy consumption was reduced and comfort conditions of children in the nursery school were improved. Further results can be viewed in the Case Study PDF.

Lessons learned and repeatability

The positive aspects of project implementation were the close co-operation with municipality representatives involved in energy conservation and efficient use sector. Recommendation of the projects could be identified as it may be of service to implement energy efficiency projects in public, industry or private building to ensure the energy efficiency, energy conservation and acceptable payback time of the projects.
