EU Connects West Midlands UK wants to develop a project to improve cycling networks and encourage connections with other transport modes by making use of former railway line routes ie where the routes remain but lines have been removed. There are many examples of these old railway routes in the UK and especially in rural areas, in which sustainable transport is always a difficulty. An alternative would be a network of 'green routes' linking towns and their suburbs/surrounding areas safely, dedicated to cyclists, thus helping to reduce congestion and pollution. This action would be combines with an awareness campaign and where they exist, would be integrated with existing bike loan schemes.
Partners could include: energy/transport organisations/agencies/officers; local planners; businesses and community organisations.
