Politecnico di Milano offers a project proposal targeting Call 4 OBJECTIVE ICT - 2009 6.3 c ICT for Energy Efficiency, ICT services and SW tools enhanced with energy features.
The project envisions a global approach to service-based information systems design and the architectures needed to support them. It will focus on two aspects of active management of energy for such systems: the co-design of the information systems and their underlying processes and hardware architectures in order to improve energy efficiency and the adaptive behaviour of the system in run time, both at the architectural level and at the service level. It will also consider the interactions of these aspects in a global vision.
A three-fold perspective will be adopted:
- Strategic governance to support high-level decisions in developing green service centres [ eg identifying green key performance indicators and analysing the impact of QoS business levels process levels on energy costs];
- Control strategies to evaluate, optimise and control services and, data at run-time on multiple time scales and adapt them at run time;
- Technological mechanisms and tools to reduce the energy consumption of service centres based on self-adaptive architectures.
Suitable partners would include: Users running large data centres; Hardware producers; Service-oriented frameworks developers.
