This report, based on a survey of over 16,000 people from across the European Union, analyses the attitudes of the citizens of the EU towards energy and energy technology issues. Areas covered include trends in energy use, perceptions of the future, priorities in the energy sector (including energy related R&D), and individual behaviour and energy policies. Among other things, the survey found that most people are concerned about the way energy is produced and used and the impact this has on the environment. European citizens would like to see more energy saving policies and increased levels of research into new energy sources. Although the results of this survey reveal areas where further action is needed, there is broad support for the EU's research priorities and activities.
