ManagEnergy Workshop - October 2002: Change of Behaviour towards higher Energy Efficiency in Buildings

Programme | Video on demand recordings

The building sector has a great impact on the environment. The implementation of efficient technologies and products needs to be complemented by actions fostering an evolution towards responsible energy behaviour by the users in the transition to the sustainable society. By changing our behaviour, both in our day-to-day life and in professional situations, energy use can be rationalised.

A major conclusion of the Johannesburg World Summit was the key role assigned to local authority: responsibility on the implementation of the Kyoto protocol and in general on sustainable development is from now on shared by local and national bodies on an equal basis. Local authorities must now react to this challenge, and energy agencies dealing with local action are the key players for that.

ManagEnergy intends to provide tools to comply with the new mandates, by means, among other things, of fostering initiatives allowing agencies to learn from each other and to replicate successful experiences. To this end, good examples carried out at local and regional level by energy management agencies were presented during this event, as well as an overview of present and future European policy, programmes and directives regarding the building sector and peoples behaviour. Agencies having participated in this workshop or viewed the video-recordings should also be in a better position to give their feedback on such issues, prepare joint proposals to EU programmes and create partnerships for thematic activities.
