Cycling paths Hlucínsko - Hlucín, Czech Republic
Type: CaseStudy
Synopsis
Hlucín has prepared a Strategical Plan of the Economic Development of the city which deals with transport features. Hlucín's transport policy aims to:
- reduce vehicle traffic in the city centre,
- support construction of cycling paths and pedestrian precincts,
- optimise public transport (modifying connections based on requirements of citizens, if possible) in co-operation with the Co-ordinator ODIS s.r.o.
Various types of public education are also used (European Car Free Day, parking restriction in the centre of the town, etc.) to promote sustainable mobility.
As a result of this transport policy, cycling paths were constructed and marked in the region of Hlucínsko. They connect villages, towns and many places which are culturally and environmentally interesting in the region.
The undemanding area of the Hlucin Hills, shaped by a Northern glacier, offers more than 70 km of signposted bicycle paths which join up with the international bicycle tourism route n°5 - "The Moravian Gateway" - part of the Euro-Velo network. These bicycle routes lead largely along little used roads. Field and forest paths are negotiable with all types of bicycles.
The routes are signposted in a standard unified way. Cycle signposts have a yellow background and give the number of the route you are on.
There is no hiring service yet, but there is a large number of repair facilities along the path.
Target groups: tourists - all citizens
Fields: cycling
