Synopsis

The city of Hodonin has a sustainable transport policy which includes a mobility plan and a strategic transport plan for the conurbation. In addition, specifications for cycle paths have been prepared. The main aims of this transport policy are:

• to improve the general condition of cycle paths,
• to make people aware of the use of less polluting modes of transports,
• to improve quality of life and health.

Some figures: In 1998, modal shares in Hodonin were as follows:

• public transport: 30%,
• private vehicles: 50%,
• cycling: 10%,
• walking: 10%.

The modal split has changed over the past few years. In 2000, it was:

• public transport: 20%,
• private vehicles: 60%,
• cycling: 15%,
• walking: 5%.

Hodonin's goal is to achieve 40% of public transport and 20% of cycling over the next 5 to 10 years. As a result of this, the City has decided to promote and improve the public transport system. The public transport innovation that is proposed is the introduction of a trolley bus network. A study will be carried out to establish the feasibility of this public transport solution. The items to be assessed include: acquisition costs, including legal ownership relationships (for any necessary purchases), the monitoring of fuel use as a result of the changes to existing means of transport, and proposals for a recommended solution and its implementation, or for other types of public transport.
