Synopsis

The Lund Link is a public transport highway from the centre of Lund via the University hospital, the Lund Institute of Technology and Lund University, large business concentrations and out of the city. Along the 10 km long stretch, bus traffic is prioritised by new, fast routes that to a large extent are separated from other traffic. The Lund Link as of today is built for bus traffic, but is designed to enable the introduction of a modern tramway without large and costly reconstructions. The constructions have started and in 2003 the Lund Link will be open to bus traffic. The measure is part of LundaMaTs, the city's sustainable transport strategy that was introduced in 1997. In 1999, several projects were introduced, such as a mobility centre, the bicycle town, and walking and cycling to school. Since then, a large number of activities - infrastructure measures as well as soft measures - have been carried out and are still being carried out. The principal objectives of the city's transport policy are:

  • better public transport with better intermodality for city buses and regional transport services,
  • environmentally friendly car traffic (eco cars, car sharing, etc.),
  • bicycle city (improved cycling infrastructure, etc.),
  • commuter transport,
  • urban planning.

One of the principal characteristics of the transport policy in Lund is the construction of better infrastructure for buses and the marketing of public transport in co-operation with the regional transport operators.
