The main objectives of this ISLENET Conference were:
- The future strategy for accelerated penetration of sustainable energy systems in islands communities,
- The ways to promote and demonstrate leading edge sustainable energy technologies in European islands, and
- The strengthening of the ISLENET network of local island authorities.
ISLENET was created in 1993. It is an initiative of the Islands Commission of the CPMR (Conference of Peripheral and Maritime Regions) and the Western Isles Council and has enjoyed the support of the EU Institutions.
