PyNe - The Biomass Pyrolysis Network
Website: www.pyne.co.uk
PyNe - The Biomass Pyrolysis Network - a global network of active researchers and developers of fast pyrolysis, has been established to discuss and exchange information on scientific and technological developments on pyrolysis and related technologies for the production of liquid fuels, electricity and chemicals. PyNe experts discuss and exchange information on scientific and technological developments on biomass pyrolysis and related technologies for the production of liquid fuels, electricity and chemicals.
PyNe is co-ordinated by Aston University with Professor Tony Bridgwater as the Co-ordinator and Emma Wylde providing the secretariat.
PyNe is also part of the ThermalNet network. ThermalNet is the new European Network for biomass pyrolysis, gasification and combustion. ThermalNet consists of three technologies: pyrolysis (PyNe), gasification (GasNet) and combustion (CombNet) and is funded through Altener in the Intelligent Energy for Europe Programme operated by DG TREN.
Each of the 18 countries formally represented on PyNe has an official representative with the responsibility of collecting information on activities in their country and disseminating information to interested organisations and persons in their country.
PyNe's main objectives include:
- to provide a forum for discussion and exchange of information on pyrolysis and all related technologies through regular meetings, specialist subject groups and publications.
- to identify research and development needs and establish priorities.
Particular areas of interest include:
- Applications for bio-oil.
- Characterisation, analysis, norms & standards.
- Environment, health and safety aspects of bio-oil.
- Slow pyrolysis for charcoal.
- Technical and non technical barriers.
- Technology reviews.
- Economics and finance.
- Education, training, information and PR.
- Gas processing and tar reactivity.
- Country reports.
A newsletter is published twice a year with a circulation of around 3000 - for a free copy please contact Emily Wakefield to subscribe.
