Status of Photovoltaics 2005 in the European Union New Member and Candidate States
Photovoltaics (PV) is one of the most promising renewable energy technologies based on abundant and inexhaustible solar energy resources. The world market for PV is growing rapidly since 1999 at an average annual growth rate of over 45%. This success has been mainly generated through market stimulation and intensive RTD work during the last 10 years in Japan, USA and Europe, resulting in considerable price reductions.
To achieve further price decrease needed for PV to become competitive at present consumer electricity prices, greater RTD activity and market development stimulation are indispensable over the next decade. This requires action within the entire Europe, but in particular in those countries which still lag behind Germany and Spain - European leaders in PV deployment.
This report presents the status of photovoltaics in EU New Member and Candidate States (NM&CS): Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia.
