Solar installation on roof of gymnasium, Recklinghausen, Germany

SWB GmbH is an SME with a team of 10-15 staff. Founded in 1980, the company has a rich experience in the installation of renewables in Germany.
The company has installed a solar installation on the roof of the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium in Recklinghausen. The installation has a peak power of 18.3 kWp. The German State of North Rhine Westphalia has supported the installation as part of a campaign to support installation companies from the region.

Results and impacts

The installation consists of 99 photovoltaic modules from BP Solar Saturn technology that produce approximately 15,000 kWh of electricity per year. The compensation from the solar electricity that is fed in into the power grid yields a total of 8.300€ per year. Of this amount, the investors receive back their paid interest.

Aims and objectives of this sustainable energy action

The installation is part of the ‘Photovoltaics NRW – Solar energy for North Rhine Westphalia’ of the German State of North Rhine Westphalia.  The campaign, coordinated by Energy Agency NRW, supports photovoltaic suppliers from the region in making them more competitive, partly through targeted marketing activities and more transparency for consumers.

Technical and financial implementation

‘Photovoltaics NRW – Solar energy for North Rhine Westphalia’ supports them with targeted marketing activities in their public relations. The government of North Rhine-Westphalia takes over fifty percent of the funding. The other part of the financing has been delivered by a group of teachers and supporters.
